Mike At Sea is the blog for me, Michael Schwendeman, a Ph.D. student at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA.  I came to UW in the summer of 2011, after completing my undergraduate degree at Cornell University in mechanical engineering.  I research ocean surface waves with Jim Thomson at the Applied Physics Lab.  The initial motivation for starting this blog was to keep family and friends informed during my three-week research cruise in the Fall of 2012, in the North Pacific Ocean.  I have restarted the website for the follow-up cruise this winter, leaving December 27, 2014.
